Alan Govenar, author and documentary filmmaker will discuss his book Anne Morgan: Photography, Philanthropy & Advocacy, co-authored with Mary Niles Maack which has just been published in January 2016. The presentation, co-organized with the American Friends of Blérancourt, will be followed by a book signing. A soirée not to be missed!
Anne Morgan, daughter of financier J.P. Morgan, was a philanthropist who provided significant relief efforts and aid to France during and after World War I and World War II.
She enlisted the aid of some 350 women volunteers, and together they helped rebuild the region of Picardy in France. Dr. Govenar will discuss the role of photography in Anne Morgan’s humanitarian work that led to the founding of the Franco-American Museum, Château de Blérancourt. Morgan helped pioneer the use of photography for fundraising purposes, thereby successfully raising money and initiating volunteerism in the service of devastated France.
